About Torah Codex
A Torah codes search engine that measures. Every count stands beside what chance alone would produce, and every letter opens its verse.
What it does
Torah Codex searches for equidistant letter sequences in the Hebrew text of the Tanakh, and it runs on your own device. It shows each result in five views, traces each letter to its verse, and ranks a result among control texts. It makes no claim about meaning or about the future.
The text
The Hebrew is the Westminster Leningrad Codex, as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible project: the 24 books of Tanakh in canonical order. The written letters are what is searched, and final letters count as their base letters. In this edition the Torah holds 304,850 letters and the Tanakh 1,197,042. The method page explains why this differs from the commonly cited 304,805.
The English
The English is the Jewish Publication Society translation of 1917, which is in the public domain.
The method
The statistical methods follow the two papers in Statistical Science: Witztum, Rips and Rosenberg (1994), and McKay, Bar-Natan, Bar-Hillel and Kalai (1999). The critique page gives both sides.
