Terms of Use
These are the terms of using Torah Codex on the web and in the apps. Using the service means you accept them.
Draft of October 31, 2026. This text is waiting for legal review and may change before launch.
What Torah Codex is
Torah Codex is a research and study tool. It searches for equidistant letter sequences in the Hebrew text of the Tanakh, and it offers a reader for that text. In these terms, “we” means the operator of Torah Codex at torahcodex.com, and “you” means the person using it.
What a result is
A result is a computed measurement of letters in one edition of the text. We make no claim that a sequence means anything, and we make no claim about the past, the present or the future. Figures such as chance estimates and control ranks describe a calculation and depend on the choices made to run it. Nothing here is a religious ruling, and questions of practice belong with your rabbi. Do not rely on a result to make a decision about your health, your money or anyone else.
Your account
You must be at least 13 to make an account. An account is an email address, or an Apple or Google sign-in, and there is no password. You are responsible for the mailbox and the sign-in you use and for what is done under them. You can delete your account at any time on the delete your account page.
Free and Premium
The Tanakh reader, the gallery and the method pages are open to everyone. The laboratory needs a free account. A free account includes 10 searches, and running a search you already hold stays free. Premium removes that limit. What Premium costs is on the pricing page. Billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds are in the subscription terms, which are part of these terms.
Fair use
You agree not to:
- scrape the service, or copy its data in bulk by automated means;
- get around the search limit, a rate limit or any other limit;
- probe or disturb the service, or the accounts of other people;
- resell access to the service;
- use a result to harass anyone, or present it as something it is not.
The text, and what is ours
The Torah belongs to no one, and we claim no rights in it. The Hebrew is the Westminster Leningrad Codex and the English is the JPS 1917; the about page credits every source. The software, the design, the indexes, the name and the mark are ours. You may share what you make here, including exported pictures and links, as long as you do not remove the branding or the verification line. You keep what you save, and you give us the permission needed to store it and show it back to you.
As it stands
We work hard to keep the figures correct and the service running, and we correct what is wrong. Even so, the service is provided as it stands and as available, with no warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise it will be free of errors or interruptions.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim connected with the service is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms takes away a right that the law gives you and does not let you waive.
Ending things
You can stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we close a paid account without cause, we refund the unused part of what was paid to us.
The app stores
If you get the app from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to the app, alongside these terms. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for the service or for support.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia in the United States, apart from its conflict of law rules. If you live somewhere that gives you the right to bring a claim under local law, that right stays yours. If a part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still stands.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we give at least 30 days' notice on the site and by email to account holders before the change takes effect.
