Levi's name comes from a hope that went unanswered: now this time will my husband be joined unto me, Genesis 29:34. His descendants, the tribe, are the ones who have no territory. Levi hath no portion nor inheritance with his brethren, Deuteronomy 10:9 says; the Lord is his inheritance. They are counted separately, from a month old and up, in Numbers 3:15, while everyone else is counted from twenty. And Aaron and Moses belong to them. Three letters with a ו in the middle make for a very frequent term, so that a sequence of לוי is a thing you will find almost anywhere you look. In the plain text the word usually carries an article, הלוי, the Levite.
