The name occurs in two verses of the Tanakh, and the second one quietly makes a claim about the first. Genesis 22:2 sends Abraham to the land of Moriah, spelled without a ו, to one of the mountains. Nothing there says where it is. Then 2 Chronicles 3:1, centuries of story later, says Solomon built the house of the Lord at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, spelled with one. That is the only place the Tanakh joins the binding of Isaac and the Temple. Nobody in the earlier books makes the connection. Because the short spelling is also the name of a man in Nehemiah 12:12, a search of it can never mean Moriah alone. The full spelling is the one that modern readers type, so we lead with it.
