Open the Book of Jeremiah at chapter 26 and his name is ירמיהו. Turn to chapter 28 and it is ירמיה, seven times in seventeen verses. Chapter 27 and chapter 29 have one each, and then the long form returns and stays. The short spelling stands nine times in the whole book, and all nine sit in this one block. Those are the chapters of Hananiah's false comfort and of the letter to the exiles in Babylon, and whatever lies behind the change, the name is a spelling fingerprint inside a single book. The prophet's scribe Baruch, in chapter 36, is shown taking his words down from dictation.

The measurement
The long spelling has no sequence at all at skips 2 to 10 in the Torah, where chance gives 2.7, and its shortest is at skip 13. The short spelling is 12 or so times commoner and comes in at 109,095 against 112,103.0. Inside his own book the short form has the small block of chapters described above, and a sequence count knows nothing of that.
