The holiest month of the Jewish year has a name the Tanakh does not know. The Torah calls it the seventh month and leaves it there. One verse gives a name, and it is a different one: Solomon's Temple is dedicated at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month, says 1 Kings 8:2. תשרי came up from Babylon with the other month names, as Rabbi Chanina says in the Jerusalem Talmud, Rosh Hashanah 1:2, and in Aramaic its root, שרי, means to begin. So the month in which the Jewish year changes its number has a name that means beginning, and the Torah's name for it is a number. Since this word is absent from the plain text, every sequence below is a sequence and nothing else.
